Appendicectomy

An appendicectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix. This procedure is usually performed in the setting of appendicitis as an emergency. Laparoscopic appendicectomy is performed through 3 small incisions placed in such a way as to hide the scars. Laparoscopy can also be used if the diagnosis is in doubt. Recovery is usually quicker and less painful with laparoscopic surgery in comparison to the conventional approach.
