Splenic Resection (Laparoscopic Splenectomy)
The spleen is a blood filled organ located in the left upper abdomen. The most common reasons for splenectomy are idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), haemolytic anaemia, spherocystosis, sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Advantages of laparoscpic splenectomy include less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to a regular diet, quicker return to normal activity and better cosmesis.
